The CW’s Valor centers on two elite helicopter pilots. A few months prior to the happenings in the series, these two pilots, Nora Madani (Christina Ochoa, Blood Drive) and Leland Gallo (Matt Barr, Hellcats), were on a clandestine international mission where they were to extract a target. During their mission, they are attacked by hostiles, causing the helicopter to crash.

Although crashing your helicopter in hostile territory might sound bad enough, Madani and Gallo discover the target they attempted to extract wasn’t a Somali national, but an American soldier that supposedly died in combat years earlier.

After the two are rescued, but their fellow soldiers are still MIA, they decide to withhold the information about the actual target. They were not supposed to know his identity in the first place, and revealing they do know it now could get them into trouble. When two of the missing soldiers are located in hostile hands, Madani and Gallo start to wonder what is going on and why they were not told the real identity of the target.

Valor seems like a desperate attempt of The CW to be taken seriously, and possibly attract a broader audience. Still, in true The CW style, Valor heavily features (unnecessary) romance. Already a love triangle is revealed and unneeded sex displayed. This could be fine as an addition to the show, but other than this romance, Valor isn’t very entertaining.

All the hot bodies and (secret) love connections hide the more interesting part of Valor. The secrets and lies surrounding the target’s identity. If Valor had focused more on this part of the story, the show would have had a shot. On the other hand, this would probably mean it never made it to The CW but ended up on, say CBS or NBC. Either way, Valor is one show you can skip this season.

Valor airs on Mondays at 9/8c on The CW.
