Preview: Great News (NBC) – Great cast, great series?

Usually, when a mother-daughter-pair work/intern at the same place, it’s the mother with the steady job and the daughter is the intern. But not in Tina Fey’s dramedy . Katie (Briga Heelan, Cougar Town) is a rising journalist at a cable news network who is shocked when her mother Carol (Andrea Martin, Difficult People) accepts an internship at the network. Carol needs the credits to go back to school, but Katie really doesn’t need her mom following her around at work. 30 Rock‘s Fey is attached as an executive producer.
This trailer actually looks great. Andrea Martin is the perfect type for Carol. She portrays the motherly, embarrassing, out-of-touch type perfectly. Katie, so far, hasn’t really stood out, but there’s still ample time for that. The involvement of – among others – Tina Fey seems to have had a positive influence on the series. All in all, this is one series I’m really looking forward to watching.
is up against , , and /Imaginary Mary. Although the latter two are the same genre, is still something else. The hour-long dramedy is sure to pull an audience, as it aims at those who want drama and comedy, and preferably of a high standard, which is not provided by any of the series it’s scheduled against.
Great News is in between seasons. Season 2 will premiere in Fall 2017.
