USA Network has renewed Ryan Phillippe action drama Shooter for a third season.

The pickup comes three months after the improvised finale of season two, which had to be shortened due to Phillippe’s broken leg. Season three will consist of 13 episode instead of the regular 10, presumably to make up for the two episodes that were lost in season two.

The third season of Shooter will be loosely based on Black Light, the second book in the series by Stephen Hunter, and it will see Bob Lee Swagger (Phillippe) struggle to put an end to the events of season two. When a nemesis reveals mysterious details about his father’s death, it leads the retired sniper towards a conspiracy that hits close to home.
