Elementary‘s sixth season has just been expanded to a full season. Adding 8 episodes to the initially ordered 13, season 6 will now consist of 21 episodes, slightly less than the first 5 seasons that had 24.

This backorder suggests that Elementary will return to CBS’ schedule soon, or it will not be able to air all of its episodes before the summer. The only viable timeslot is the one vacated on Sunday nights by the recently-cancelled Wisdom Of The Crowd, which will continue to air all of its 13 episodes.

Elementary has been doing not so well in the ratings for a few years now, but syndication deals with WGN America and Hulu Plus, among others, means the show brings in as much as $3 million per episode.
