Five episodes into its freshman run, TNT has renewed its Niecy Nash dramedy Claws for a second season.

Executive produced by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack and created by Eliot Laurence, Claws has become TNT’s highest-rating new series since the network launched its programming shift last year under new president Kevin Reilly. It has also become TNT’s youngest-skewing hourlong series, and cable’s number 4 new drama in both Adults 18-49 ratings and social engagement.

At the center of Claws is Desna (Niecy Nash), the owner of a nail salon who also cares for her mentally ill brother (Harold Perrineau). She employs her party-girl turned single-mom best friend Jennifer (Jenn Lyon), driver and security guard Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes), preppy ex-con Polly (Carrie Preston), and the disinterested Virginia (Karrueche Tran). A complicating factor is that the salon is used to launder the profits of an illegal drug clinic for career criminal Uncle Daddy (Dean Norris).
