In the summer, we make renewal and cancellation predictions every last Sunday of the month. So check back again on July 30th for the latest!

ABC has only aired two original scripted series so far this summer, and one of them is Still Star-Crossed. The Romeo and Juliet sequel, which hails from Shondaland, premiered on Monday, May 29th to ratings that weren’t exactly great. It held steady in its second episode, but in week three it dropped from a 0.5 to a 0.3 in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic. Even for a summer series, that is terrible. ABC had no other choice but to cancel the series, so that is exactly what the network did just this Friday. The remaining episodes will air on Saturdays starting July 1st.

Comedy Downward Dog, which has been airing since May 17th, where it premiered to quite OK ratings. Five weeks later, the show has lost almost half versus its premiere ratings. ABC is already knees deep in comedies — it recently cancelled Last Man Standing and Dr. Ken because there was not enough room — so save for a foray into summer comedy, ABC definitely doesn’t need Downward Dog. Therefore, it is a Likely Cancellation.

That means that all hope for an ABC summer success now lies with supernatural series Somewhere Between, which will premiere on Monday, July 24th.
