Freshman comedy Trial & Error is so far doing better than the already renewed Superstore and The Good Place. It is important to note here that Superstore is a self-starter and Trial & Error has the coveted The Voice lead-in, but it is nevertheless a good sign for the show. Even though it has been scheduled in a back-to-back burn off fashion, things are looking good for Trial & Error for now. It is a Likely Renewal.

Powerless, on the other hand, is not doing so great. NBC may have been desperate for comedies that were able to hold any ratings level at all, but that is not the case anymore. With Superstore, The Good Place and possibly Trial & Error, and a few new comedies, NBC has more than enough to fill its schedule with. There is just no need for Powerless, especially with those ratings. Powerless is a Certain Cancellation.

Other new series Taken and Chicago Justice are on a downward trend, and that is not a good sign for the shows. Chicago Justice probably has a bit more leeway for the obvious reason of keeping producer Dick Wolf (of the Law & Order and Chicago franchises) happy. For now, both will remain a Likely Renewal, but they shows keep dropping, a downgrade is inevitable.

Powerless in on the wrong network. It needs to be on the CW with the other DC shows.

    • You’re right, it is not a really good fit between Superstore and Chicago Med. And with the ratings it is currently getting it would be doing quite well on The CW. Only problem is that The CW doesn’t really do half-hour comedies. They tried it last year with Significant Mother, but the fact that you probably don’t even remember that show says enough..

Trial & Error is by far my favorite new show this season. I am hoping against all hope that it’s going to be renewed.

    • It is quite enjoyable, though I personally like for instance The Good Place better. At some points it’s a bit too silly for my taste.
In the post above, Trial & Error was still a Likely Renewal, but that has changed now..
