Parks and Recreation was unofficially renewed for a seventh season last week, which is not surprising since it’s the highest rating comedy series on NBC. It’s closely followed by Community, which was described as having ‘a strong possibility for returning’ by NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt. However, Community has seen a drop in its ratings, and although it’s still the number two comedy series on NBC, that’s not really that much of an achievement when the two shows it beats are The Michael J. Fox Show and Sean Saves The World.

Over in the drama section, Dracula had its season finale this week. It ended its first season with a rating of 1.0. This makes Dracula currently the lowest rating drama series on NBC. Granted, it is a Friday series and is thus allowed to score a little lower than the other series. Furthermore, it is a co-production and thus less costly to produce, and the show is a good seller internationally and is thus less dependent on getting good ratings. After all, it doesn’t matter if the money comes from advertisers, or from foreign networks, as long as the money keeps coming. However, is it enough for a renewal? Probably not.

  • Kittyfox

This show is brilliant! (Obviously anything clever should be canceled, NBC. Naturally. Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, anyone..?) I will be severely disappointed if they ax it, considering what they’re keeping. It’s so depressing this didn’t have better ratings. I love this show! :(

They’re keeping the shows that are doing good in the ratings, no matter what the quality of that show is. So in the end it’s the people watching (or not watching) who decide if a show stays on or not.
